Voltage divider
Vout = Vin · R2 / (R1 + R2), measured where the two resistors meet

Tap a part to see its voltages and currents. It is a model, not a measurement.
Predict, measure, explain
- Predict Two 10 kΩ resistors on 9 V: what voltage is at their middle?
- Measure Tap R2. Then change R2 to 20 kΩ.
- Explain
Show the answerHide the answer
Half, 4.5 V, because both resistors are equal. With 20 kΩ, R2 takes two thirds: 6 V.
